Happy Halloween everyone!  Tonight is the night when many will roam the streets and knock on doors yelling “Trick or Treat!”.  There are several things to keep in mind to keep our trick or treaters safe on Halloween night from walking in a group, with a buddy or trusted adult to what type of costume to wear that will provide some warmth on this cold Midwest evening….brrrrrr – that is almost as frightful as Halloween can be! However, what I am going to offer today are some food safety reminders as they relate to Halloween, mainly on the topic of “food inspection”.  Continue reading “Halloween Food Safety”

S’more Snack Mix

It’s the middle of summer, have you had a S’more yet? Well today I am going to share with you a simple and delicious S’more Snack Mix. This is perfect sweet treat for picnics, camping, going to the beach or simply binge watching Netflix.

S’more Snack Mix

Ingredients
  • 10 Oz. Box Teddy Grahams
  • 20 Oz. Chocolate Almond Bark, melted
  • 4 Cups Mini Marshmallows
  • Plastic Snack Bags
  • Wax Paper
Instructions
  1. Lay out 10 oz. of Teddy Grahams on a piece of wax paper.
  2. Melt Chocolate Almond Bark in microwave according to package directions.
  3. Pour melted Almond Bark over Teddy Grahams.
  4. Sprinkle 4 Cups Mini Marshmallows over top.
  5. Let sit for 2-3 hours and bag into plastic sandwich bags.

Now believe me, these are DELICIOUS! I could have made more bags, but I ate a lot of the snack mix before they made it into the bags, it’s that good! Once the chocolate has hardened make sure to bag them up so the Teddy Grahams and marshmallows don’t get stale! You could certainly add more to this mix as well, perhaps adding Mini M&Ms, pretzel sticks or peanuts!

Although you could simply sit down and devour all of this snack mix yourself, or like I said before, bring it with you on the boat or on a picnic. However, if you care to share you can click here and download a cute note to staple to the top of your plastic baggie to create a cute gift for someone.

I hope you enjoy this snack mix, it sure screams summer and is a simple, delicious treat that is fun and easy to make. I would even suggest getting the kids involved, they would love making this too!

Happy Summer!

3 Day Camping Meal Plan

My family has spent Memorial Day Weekend camping since before I was even born! Even though the tradition has changed over the years, we still spend the weekend together camping out in my parent’s back yard. This year was no exception! All those years camping has given me so many wonderful memories of fishing, doing puzzles, playing cards, going for walks, canoing and especially cooking over a campfire.  Continue reading “3 Day Camping Meal Plan”

Hummus: A Healthy Snack for a Busy Life

Hummus: A Healthy Snack for a Busy Life

A Natural Approach with Cheryl - www.cobornsblog.com

As my son, Alex, and I sat in a bustling auditorium waiting for my granddaughter’s spring program to begin, I mentioned that I needed a subject for this blog. His immediate response, “Hummus! I eat it every day, it’s an easy go-to snack.”

Alex’s life is one of the busiest I know of. He goes to school in St. Paul during the day, works as a bartender in a high end restaurant downtown Minneapolis at night, drives his daughter to school in Roseville, plays Lego’s with his son at home in Lino Lakes and his wife is exactly nine months pregnant with their third child. If he finds hummus an easy, go-to snack I believe him! Continue reading “Hummus: A Healthy Snack for a Busy Life”
