6 Simple Halloween Party Ideas

6 Simple Halloween Party Ideas

www.cobornsblog.com - Family, Friends & Food with Jayne

Hi and happy October! Halloween this year falls on a Saturday and I can just hear the buzz in the air with all the planning for those spooktacular parties that everyone will either be hosting or attending.
Life is so busy and I’m sitting here putting together some quick appetizers for my Halloween party that I’m hosting this year. So you know me by now I love to talk and share recipes with anyone that wants to listen

Festive Halloween Punch

Festive Halloween Punch

I first started with a festive Halloween Punch. If you want to impress your guests and get that really eerie atmosphere then dry ice is the key to any party. I found a small bowl and put it in an extra larger bowl. So in between each of the bowls I placed chunks of dry ice. Make sure to always use gloves when working with dry ice or you will burn yourself. Here is the punch recipe that I put together.

So right when your guests arrive, pour warm water in between those two bowls over the dry ice. It is just the coolest look and your guests will love it.

Festive Halloween Punch
  • 1 Can Frozen Lemonade Concentrate
  • 1 Can Frozen Orange Juice Concentrate
  • 2 Liters Sierra Mist or Sprite
  1. Mix together and it’s ready to go!!

Out of your Gourd

Out Of Your Gourd

I wanted to stay with the Halloween theme but still wanted to serve other refreshments so on my way home today I stopped at our local Coborn’s Liquor store and the great guy that helped me suggested to serve a Pumpkin Beer, after learning more about the beers from the staff I decided to get the “Your Out of Your Gourd” Pumpkin Porter.

Simple Halloween Meatballs

Simple Halloween Meatballs

I always seem to be short on time and I just don’t always have time to make homemade meatballs so I picked up the next best thing. If you haven’t tried them make sure to check out Simek’s Meatballs. They are awesome and the best part is all you have to do is drop them in a Crock Pot and add Ol’West BBQ Sauce. They are fully cooked so just turn the heat on low setting for an hour. Too add to the festiveness, I added these cute little appetizer picks. Click here and you can make them as well. Simply print, cut-out and attach to some toothpicks. Place one pick in each meatball and serve.

Bare Bones Meat & Cheese Tray

Bare Bones Meat & Cheese Tray

My next spooky appetizer couldn’t get any easier. All I did was slice a variety of cheese and meat and placed it on a tray surrounded by an assortment of crackers. Then I looked through some of my Halloween decorations and found this skeleton that I thought would look so awesome!

Pumpkin Fluff

Pumpkin Fluff

Now every party has to have some kind of sweet desserts so I found a very quick recipe and to add to my Halloween theme I bought one of those cute little pumpkins and carved it out and used it as a serving bowl. Here is the pumpkin spread that I prepared.

Mix all together and serve in a bowl or mini pumpkin. Don’t forget to serve them with Nilla Wafers, Gingersnaps or Cinnamon Graham Crackers. They are so yummy and have a perfect pumpkin spice flavor!

Pumpkin Fluff
  • 15 Oz. Can Pumpkin Puree
  • 5 Oz. Instant Vanilla Pudding Package
  • ¼ tsp. Pumpkin Spice
  • 16 Oz. Whipped Topping
  1. Add all ingredients in a bowl.
  2. Mix well & top with a sprinkle of Cinnamon or Pumpkin Spice
  3. Serve with Vanilla Wafers, Gingers Snaps or Pumpkin Spice Cookies!

Witch’s Brooms

Witch's Brooms

Last but not least you just have to have some kind of chocolate at your party don’t you?? Well here are some cute little goodie to share and they are so very easy to make. Just unwrap individual pieces of Reese’s Peanut Butter cups and tip them upside down. Insert a pretzel stick and you have a Witch’s Broom.

Whether you are the party planner or the guest, I hope your Halloween weekend is safe, festive and filled with treats!

12 Days of Christmas

www.cobornsblog.com - Fun with Family with Rebecca
Rebecca – Fun with Family

The Coborn’s 12 days of Christmas have officially begun! This promotion is new to us this year and has already been a huge hit!

We partnered with a dozen of our very favorite vendors to deliver some holiday joy to our customers: Purina, Pan-O-Gold, Crystal Farms, Kemps, Simek’s, Crunchmaster, Sugardale, Food Club, Farmland, Wrigley, Mars and Gold’n Plump.

Then we invited our customers to register to win a cart full of groceries at www.coborns.com.

On each of the 12 Days of Christmas, our Coborn’s elves meet up with the vendor of the day and show up at a store, find someone with a nice, full cart, and surprise them with the gift of free groceries. After having our fun in the store, we come back to Santa’s workshop, draw a random winner from the online registration, and then post the fun on social media.

The first day of our Christmas promotion was super fun! We surprised a customer in Big Lake by paying for her groceries, and in the true Christmas spirit, she paid it forward and bought the groceries of the next two people in line behind her. You can watch the festivities on our YouTube channel.

12 Days of Christmas

If you haven’t yet entered for your chance to win free groceries through the 12 Days of Christmas, there are 10 days left – sign up at www.Coborns.com

Jayne's Garden Party – Including 4 delicious recipes!

Jayne's Garden Party - Including 4 delicious recipes - www.cobornsblog.com

www.cobornsblog.com - Family, Friends & Food with Jayne

Are you as sick of the rain as much as I am?  I thought I would never say that after the drought we had a few years ago, but enough is enough. Summer is the time I look forward to celebrating outdoors. I love working in my flower garden but between the rain and those nasty mosquitoes I haven’t had the chance to enjoy them as much as I normally would. So I thought the next best thing I could do is throw a garden party with some of my friends on the back patio and show off some of those beautiful flowers. So I sat down one morning and planned out my menu.

Bloody Mary Shrimp Cocktail Salad

Bloody Mary Shrimp Cocktail Salad Receipe and other great recipes for your next Garden Party - www.cobornsblog.com

I wanted to start off with a salad that would WOW my friends and I had gotten this recipe from my mom a few years back and fell in love with it. Number one reason why?? Anyone that loves Bloody Marys will love this recipe. It has no alcohol in it but it has all the flavors of a great Bloody Mary and the taste of fresh Grape Tomatoes makes this recipe outstanding.

  3. Refrigerate 30 minutes.
  4. Divide tomato mixture among 4 glasses or dishes and top with shrimp.
  5. If desired, garnish with lemon and celery leaves.

Pink Lemonade Cocktail

Next I wanted something to drink that would scream “refreshing” for a hot summer day and I found the solution. This recipe is perfect for your next garden party, hot summer night or a picnic by the lake.

5.0 from 1 reviews
Pink Lemonade Cocktail
Serves: 8
  • 12 Oz. Container Frozen Pink Lemonade Concentrate
  • 2½ Cups Cold Water
  • 1½ Cups Lemon-Citrus Rum
  • ¼ Cup Triple Sec
  • 2 Cups Ice Cubes
  • 4 Lemon Slices
  • 12 Oz. Can Lemon Lime Soft Drink (Sprite)
  1. In a 2-quart pitcher, stir together frozen pink lemonade concentrate, water, rum and triple sec until blended.
  2. Add ice cubes and lemon slices.
  3. Top with lemon-lime soft drink; stir lightly.
  4. Serve immediately in ice-filled glasses.
  5. If desired, garnish with lemon slices.
This drink can be made without alcohol just by making the lemonade like it says on the package and just adding some lemon-lime soda to it.

Italian Roast Beef & Turkey Sandwich

Italian Roast Beef & Turkey Sandwich Receipe and other great recipes for your next Garden Party - www.cobornsblog.comNow for the main entrée and I wanted something simple so I decided to serve this sandwich.  I think this was not only a hit for the party but it was also a hit in the kitchen for me because it was so easy and quick to make.

Strawberry Salsa

Strawberry Salsa Receipe and other great recipes for your next Garden Party - www.cobornsblog.comNow it’s time for dessert and I was looking for something light and since we are in the heart of berry season I thought I would come up with something where I could use those fresh wonderful strawberries that make my mouth water every time I see them in the grocery store. Well sure enough I found the perfect recipe.  Wait until you try this recipe with the chocolate covered graham crackers. Ooooo la la! They were fantastic.

5.0 from 1 reviews
Strawberry Salsa
Serves: 12
  • 2 Cups Strawberries hulled and chopped
  • 1 Cup Fresh Pineapple, peeled, cored, chopped
  • 1 T. Fresh Mint, chopped
  • ¾ tsp. Grated Lemon Zest
  • ½ tsp. Sugar
  1. Combine strawberries, pineapple, mint, lemon zest and sugar and mix together.
  2. If desired you can garnish with fresh mint leaves.
  3. Serve with ginger snap cookies or chocolate covered graham cracker cookies.

Now for putting the finishing touches together by creating a table setting that your friends will love.  You don’t have to spend a ton of money on decorations for your party just look around your home and it’s amazing what you can find for ideas. Here are a few that I want to share with you.

  • Bring out pillows to create a relaxed atmosphere on your chairs.
  • Hang pretty paper lanterns in the trees or from the porch railing.
  • Make sure to add candles or fill small lanterns with tea lights surrounded by petals.
  • Mix and match linens and dishes, in pale, pretty colors. Try white and pink together or baby blue and peach or yellow.
  • Top your table with a vase of cut blooms, herbs or greenery.  Have an extra watering can and fill them with flowers and put near your entryway of the patio.
  • I also added a little country touch to my garden party and since I do canning towards the fall I had empty jars to serve the lemonade in. I just love the look of the old fashioned striped paper straws and believe it or not I found them at our local craft store under $2.00. They just add that extra special touch.

Now I had pretty much everything planned except the weather and as we all know that is the one thing you can’t do in the great state of Minnesota. Well wouldn’t you know a half hour before my garden party was to start it rained and I was defiantly not a happy camper.  Fortunately I did not have my table set so I was ok. Within 10 minutes the sun was out and everything turned out perfect. My neighbor Donna, my son’s girlfriend MacKenzie and Holly my co-worker and fellow blogger joined me for a perfect afternoon luncheon. Hopefully this gives you some simple easy ideas for you to create your own garden party or any fun occasion.  Enjoy…we did!

12 Days of Local Christmas

www.cobornsblog.com - 12 Days of Local Christmas

www.cobornsblog.com Naturally Close to Home with Rhonda

Happy Holidays!  I would like to welcome you along on my twelve days of discovering all our great products that have a local connection. The Midwest is home to many great brands! Some with thousands of employees and some with just a few.

There’s been a lot of buzz on local the last few years.  You may find yourself wondering  what it’s all about and what difference it makes to you.  Supporting local products keeps our local economy strong.  When we buy these brands, we support so many people, from the ones who actually make the product to sales people and delivery people.  These folks in turn spend their earnings locally, allowing companies like Coborn’s to grow and prosper and support our local communities through charitable giving.

Speaking of giving, locally produced items make great holiday gifts for friends and family who have moved out of the area.  You can put together some great gift baskets and they’ll appreciate it far more than a Vikings jersey!  Here are some great ideas……

www.cobornsblog.com - 12 Days of Local ChristmasOn the first day of Christmas, I will start my day with a hot cup of Cameron’s Coffee with a little Truvia to sweeten it up.  After I have some toast with delicious Pan o’ Gold Bread I will freshen up with a bar of Purple Prairie Frankincense and Myrrh Soap.  Look!  This soap is made less than 20 miles from my house!  And it has me in the holiday spirit!

On the second day of Christmas, it’s Chicken Schwarma Pizza Night!  First, it’s a Bisquick Pizza Crust.  I will top that with Massad’s Schwarma Sauce,  some cooked Gold’n Plump Chicken, chopped Gedney Pickles (try it!) and a little cheese.  Gourmet Minnesota!

On the third day of Christmas, I am back to breakfast.  Today I can enjoy a bowl of Crapola Granola and Organic Valley Milk.  I like Crapola’s  slogan “Makes Even Weird People Regular.”  Looks like a great stocking stuffer for the relatives!

On the fourth day of Christmas, it’s BBQ night.  Time to grab that Ken Davis BBQ Sauce, some Jimmy’s Cole Slaw Dressing and Betty Crocker Specialty Potatoes.  With a few fresh additions, I am ready to go!

On the fifth day of Christmas, my true love gave to me……..five salty snacks!  It’s Christmas Movie Night!  Let’s have Drew’s Caramel Corn, Chex Snack Mix, Vic’s Cinnamon Kettle Style Popcorn , Pearson’s Salted Nut Rolls and Angie’s Holidrizzle Popcorn.  We’d better have some friends over!

On the sixth day of Christmas, I’d better eat something healthy!  How about a nice salad with S&W Black Beans and Butter Kernel Corn?  Yum!

On the seventh day of Christmas, what better than Seven Sundays Museli to start my day?!  After a long day of Christmas decorating, I relax with a nice plate of pasta with Buon Giorno Pasta Sauce.

On the eighth day of Christmas, I think I will hit some local stores to do Christmas shopping.  While I am out, I will use my CleanSmart Hand Sanitizer to keep the germs at bay!   And for dinner, there is a crock pot of ribs awaiting me, smothered in Famous Dave’s BBQ Sauce.

On the ninth day of Christmas,  I will grab a bowl of Chex Cereal with just a little Crystal Sugar.  My son wants waffles, so I will pass the Hamel Maple Syrup.

On the tenth day of Christmas, it’s time for a quick lunch before more shopping!  Green Mill Pasta Sauce and spaghetti will help me fight the crowds.  I like it zesty so I will add some Watkin’s Pepper.

On the eleventh day of Christmas, I think I will stay in my pajamas all day!  I will sleep late and have Malt O Meal Frosted Mini Spooners for a late breakfast.  I’d better grab the Kemps Milk, too

On the twelfth day of Christmas, it’s time for a party!  I will throw some meatballs into a pan of Old West BBQ Sauce and make a great holiday salad with Canoe Wild Rice.  Easy, and dazzling!

Thanks for hanging out with me for twelve days!  Remember to support local products and businesses this holiday season, and all year long!  Happy Holidays!
