How to Throw a Great Party

Tips for Planning a Party

This time of year there are a lot of parties to go to – and if you’re throwing a party you might be getting a little stressed out about how to get it all done. Don’t sweat it. We have some great tips on how to throw a great party and some ways to plan a party with little or no stress.

First – decide on the feel of your event. Do you want to do a formal, sit-down dinner or something more casual like cocktails and appetizers? Maybe you’d like to do something a little later in the evening once the kids have gone to bed? Consider having a dessert buffet for that type of event. If you’d like to try to keep costs down – consider having your friends and family over for brunch!

Once you’ve decided on the type of party you want to have – look at how much food and drinks you’ll need to have ready. If you’re doing cocktails and appetizers you’ll want to plan about 10 pieces of food per person. This way they’ll feel full but not too stuffed. When it comes to what to drink – you don’t have to worry about stocking a full bar. Look at serving just wine or beer (or both). A great trend right now that helps you save time and money is to focus on one, signature cocktail. You can mix up a pitcher or two ahead of time and not worry about having to play bartender. A custom cocktail is a great way to incorporate any theme you might be having as well. If you’re serving Mexican food, mix up some margaritas or mojitos. Going with some classic, throwback dishes – maybe you’re channeling “Mad Men” – consider martinis or an old fashioned. If you’re having a get-together for your best girlfriends, you really can’t go wrong with a classic Cosmopolitan.

If you’re going to host a sit-down dinner, look for dishes you can make ahead of time or that involve a long, slow cooking process. Braised meats, baked pastas and even soups are wonderful dishes to make ahead and use to feed a crowd. Do make sure to consider your guests – if you’re inviting vegetarians or someone with a food allergy, you’ll want to make sure they have plenty of options. After all – you want everyone to feel welcome and included!

Don’t forget your music! A great playlist can add a wonderful element to your party. It can also help you move the evening along! Play more mellow music near the end of the evening and your guests might get the hint that it’s close to the end of the night.

No matter what kind of party you’re hosting – don’t forget we can help! Coborn’s and CobornsDelivers offer an incredible variety of platters to feed your guests as well as great desserts, side dishes and main courses. Let us do the work – and you can take all of the credit!
