Columbia Crest winery has found a home in the Horse Heaven Hills of Washington for more than two decades. This region and winery combine to make some of Washington’s and maybe the world’s most affordable and best “every day” drinking wines. The soil deposits from the Missoula Floods during the Ice Age and the current climate help create a terroir there ideal for wine grapes like Cabernet, Merlot, Chardonnay & Riesling just to name a few. Ultimately these wines end up with an ideal balance between wines four primary traits of acidity, alcohol, sweetness and tannin make them a choice we proudly present as our March Winery of the Month and perfect food wines.

Wine:
Columbia Crest Grand Estates Cabernet Sauvignon
Comments:
This Cabernet is blended with 18% Merlot & 2% Cabernet Franc. It is also aged in 26% new and 74% older American and French oak barrels for 11 months. It is complex and well-structured with berry fruit, plum and vanilla notes. Great with Beef Tenderloin, Duck or Dark Chocolate (at least 72% cocoa).

Wine:
Columbia Crest Grand Estates Chardonnay
Comments:
This Chardonnay has awesomely intense aromas of apples and melon certainly brightened by the 1% Riesling in the final blend. Fresh cut Orchard fruits highlight the flavors which are joined by creamy, buttery notes and balanced with dancing acidity.   This wine is the perfect partner for two of my favorite foods crab cakes and chicken pot pie but also is nice with Brie or Camembert.

Wine:
Columbia Crest Grand Estates Merlot
Comments:
This Merlot has small amounts of Cabernet Sauvignon (4%), Cabernet Franc (2%) & Syrah (1%) in the final blend. This adds to the richness and fruit complexity. The aromas have a chocolate cherry thing going on with complex fruit flavors and a pleasantly lingering finish. The winemaker recommends this wine with Pork Tenderloin but at our house this is the go to wine with Grilled Hamburgers and all the fixings.

Wine:
Columbia Crest H3 Cabernet Sauvignon
Comments:
This Cabernet is blended with 16% Merlot. It is aged in 48% new and 52% older French & American oak barrels for 9 months. This is a bold wine with black cherry and blackberry flavors complemented by mineral and earthy notes and finished with soft tannins. Great with Beef Pot Roast, Pasta Bolognese and Aged Gouda.

Wine:
Columbia Crest H3 Merlot
Comments:
This wine is 100% Merlot and is one of the best I have tasted recently. This is a medium-bodied wine with enticing aromas of blackberry and spice. On the palate there is a beautiful complex balance of ripe cherry, cocoa and earth followed by a velvety finish. This is a surprisingly awesome wine with grilled salmon or pairs nicely with a balsamic mozzarella, tomato & asparagus salad.

Wine:
Columbia Crest H3 Red Blend
Comments:
This is a delicious blend mostly of Merlot & Syrah with just enough Viognier & Cabernet Franc to enhance aromas and add finesse. It has lively fruit and rose petal aromas followed by dark cherry flavors with smooth tannins. A delicious wine with grilled pepper steak, blue cheese or both put together!
